Generic Augmentin

Generic Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanate)

Augmentin is intended to treat bacterial infections of the lower respiratory tract, otitis media, skin sinusitis infections, and urinary tract infections.

General Purpose
Augmentin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that destroys bacteria. It is active against many aerobic (which develop in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobic (which develop in the absence of oxygen) Gram-positive agents and aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms, including those that produce beta-lactamase (an enzyme that destroys penicillin). The potassium clavulanate used in this medicinal product ensures the resistance of Augmentin to the activity of bacterial beta-lactamases. This drug is used to treat pneumonia and other respiratory infectious diseases, diseases of the gastrointestinal system, urogenital system, infections that appeared after surgery and others.

Dosage and administration
Doses are given according to your individual condition, the location of the infection and the susceptibility of the pathogen. Do not take the medication in larger amounts or for a longer period of time than recommended. Swallow the tablet whole. If it is the Augmentin chewable tablet, then chew it before swallowing. Augmentin should be taken at evenly distributed intervals.

Precautions
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, or if you have liver or kidney failure or mononucleosis.

Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired liver function. The drug is not recommended for pregnant women (especially in the third trimester of pregnancy) and breastfeeding women.

Drug Interaction
Treatment with Augmentin and other antibiotics can change the flora of normal bacteria in the colon and allow for the excessive growth of Clostridium difficile, bacteria that cause pseudomembranous colitis. Probenecid which is used to treat gout can slow down the rejection of Augmentin from the kidneys and thus lead to an increase in its toxicity.

Omission of dosage
If you missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but not if it’s almost time for the next dose according to your regular schedule. If so, skip the missed dose. Do not attempt to make up for an missed dose by taking an additional dose.
